Volla Phone unboxing by Jolla-Devices, a phone which runs it all | Nokiamob

Last year, German startup Volla, launched a Kickstarter campaign for its own privacy-focused smartphone, Volla Phone. Some of the earliest prototypes of the device run on both Volla OS, an AOSP, and Sailfish OS. It gathered over 500 backers on both Kickstarter and Indiegogo platform, with the latter tagging the project as “INDEMAND”.

Last year, a YouTube channel, Jolla-Devices, showcased two devices running on two different operating systems mentioned above. The one backers are getting though is the version with Google-free Android. However, the company promised a continued development of Sailfish OS on its device.

What’s interesting about Volla Phone is the fact that you can actually pre-order a version with Ubuntu Touch, which by the way, is one of the most gorgeous Linux flavors out there. You can do this by visiting their German webshop.

Going back to the unboxing, Jolla-Devices, being one of the first people to actually try out the Volla Phone, published a YouTube video showing what the device looks like in its retail packaging.

Needless to say, the Volla Phone isn’t that impressive on paper. It has a 6.3-inch display, with an unmentioned resolution, and a dated dewdrop notch, or V-notch as they call it. Processing all things up is the Helio P23 paired with 4GB of RAM, and an expandable 64GB of storage. The phone does have a decent 4,700mAh battery, which charges at 9V2A, but at least Volla is generous to include a USB Type-C port.

The imaging set is rather pedestrian either. The main camera is a 16MP + 2MP combo, while on the front is a single 16MP sensor. Not all that fancy compared to the devices from most established companies.

Opps, the price you asked? €359 for both Volla OS and Ubuntu Touch versions. Jolla, Volla, what is next, Newkia? 🙂
